Bodies of Pompeji

In 79 AD, the ash rain of Mount Vesuvius buries an entire city under itself. Life on the streets is frozen. Enclosed in ash, people's bodies freeze at the moment of their death, leaving an imprint, a cavity - negatives that are later filled with plaster to 'preserve' the figures. Prints and imprints are created that outlive the people. Bodies of Pompeii is an exploration of corporeality; oscillating between fascination with what is happening and the aesthetic experience embodied in it, the artistic expression of the figures. Through the precisely edited found footage materials and the suggestive sound collages, an access to one's own bodily (re)sensations unfolds.
