the beauty of it

In his installation "The Beauty of It" (2018), which was his final exam project at the Düsseldorf Fine Arts Academy, Dominik Geis undertakes a multi-faceted questioning of our media imprint. Similar to a large stage, the impression of old 4:3 monitor formats alternates with current 16:9 projections and circulating panoramic views on three projection screens. Found footage material is sampled and scratched until the images lose their original expressiveness and become ornaments in the reproduction. It is a kaleidoscopic recourse to the cultivation of 'television' and the re-evaluation of beauty.
